Obituary of Rochelle L Washington

Please share a memory of Rochelle to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rochelle Loress Washington, affectionately known as “Chelle,” was born on October 2, 1980 in Nassawadox, Virginia to Martha Washington-Fletcher and the late Ronnie Fletcher. On June 18, 2020, the beloved daughter, sister, Godmother and friend moved onto eternal rest with her heavenly Father. Chelle was a loving daughter, sister and friend, often acting as the organizer or chief participant for events such as birthdays, graduation events, baby showers and family get-togethers. She rarely used the word “No,” always there to help family and friends with emotional, physical and financial support. She was a true rock, often offering a listening ear and sound advice to anyone who came to her for feedback on a challenge they needed to overcome or success they wanted to build upon. Her ability to love, support and nurture others transitioned beautifully into pseudo-motherhood in 2003 when her first God-daughter was born, followed by three other Godchildren thereafter. From that point, Chelle led a full and beautiful life devoted to nurturing her four Godchildren, enjoying her loving family and friends, and achieving success in her rewarding career. Chelle graduated from Rutgers University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Though she loved the study of human nature (and used that technical background in her emotional support of family and friends), she truly found her stride in the many positions she held with the State of NJ. Her career with the State spanned 12 years and includedroles with Consumer Affairs(dispatching technicians to service elevators & maintaining permits) and the Inspector General’s Office (responding to requests from citizens in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act). She was predeceased by her father, Ronnie Fletcher in 2018. She is survived by her mother Martha Washington, sister Lyesha Fletcher, brothers Rashon Fletcher and Ronnie Townsend, best friend Kima Byrd, Goddaughters Taahira and Kamyah, Godson Elijah, Godniece Saniyah, and boyfriend James Griffin. She is also survived by Aunts Jean Brown, Daphne Washington, Madeline (Punt) Washington, Catherine (Betty) Pettit and Andrea Whye; Uncles Richard Corbin, Michael Corbin, Bud Fletcher (wife Barbara) and Norman Fletcher; a host of other paternal aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins, friends and coworkers. To her pride she leaves a legacy of strength, altruism, and endurance. Her life served as a blueprint to others on what it means to be a truly supportive human being and proof that you can accomplish anything despite any setbacks you may encounter. Chelle will truly be missed. - From The Family
