HER LIFE STORY Millicent Lee Walters, the second oldest of six children, was born to Benjamin Clemuels Walters, Sr. and Claudia Theresa (Jones) Walters on August 7, 1945 in Camden, New Jersey. Affectionately known to family and close friends as Mike, Millicent was also nick named “Mikey” by one of her great nephews. Millicent was educated in Camden Public Schools. She graduated from Woodrow High School in 1963. In August of 1962 she participated in the March on Washington with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Millicent would continue to be a champion of social justice and an active participant in civic initiatives in her community. The first step in her professional career was a bank teller at the Camden Trust Bank. From there, Millicent moved into the role of Fraud Investigator with the Camden County Board of Social Services. She established a 35 year career with a stellar record, receiving numerous awards and accommodations from Camden County and the State of New Jersey. Millicent retired from her Board of Social Service career in 2005 with 15 years of perfect attendance! Millicent was a devout member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church where she served on Prayers for the People, and Daughters of the King. She was also committed to feeding the homeless through weekly outreach with the church. Millicent dreamed of being in movies and commercials…. she accomplished both! She completed Voice Over Techniques, Best Acting, and Continuing Scene Study through Mike Lemon Casting. Her movie credits include being extra in the movie “Bottom Feeders” and being a commercial extra for SAS Mortgage. Her voice over credits include: Smith Klein and Merck Travel for Wing Communications, Keen Psychic Hotline for Wing Communications, and Dial-A-Demo. Millicent also included her mother and son when she was offered the opening commercial of a local movie theater. Millicent’s greatest accomplishment was raising her son Paul Benjamin. She was a loving, dedicated, and proud mom. Millicent and Paul were among the first travelers on Disney’s “Big Red Boat. She supported all of his endeavors and was his greatest cheer leader. They enjoyed each other every day and took every opportunity to make the most of routine or significant events in each other’s lives. Millicent proudly stood by her son’s side as he wed (Shola) in December of 2016 and wholeheartedly embraced her new daughter in love. Millicent was a proud citizen of Camden, New Jersey; beloved in her neighborhood. Millicent created small job opportunities for handiwork on her duplexes where she also provided affordable housing for others. Millicent enjoyed manicures, pedicures, eating out at Red Lobster and Hibachi. She also loved traveling to the casinos with her mom. Crossword puzzles and salt water taffies were also among her favorites. Millicent hosted family dinners, annual super bowl parties and Valentine’s Day parties for her family; complete with steak and lobster tails! Millicent is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin C. Walters, Sr., her mother, Claudia T. Walter and her younger brother Benjamin C. Walters, Jr. To cherish her memory, Millicent leaves her son Paul Benjamin Walters (Shola), her sisters: Pat Daniels, Jacqueline Meador, Joann Bailey (Linwood), Stephanie Duncan and adopted sister Chrystel Lee (Ernest); along with three generations of nieces and nephews. Millicent will also be deeply missed by extended family and close friends
