Obituary of Douglas Henriques Sr.

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Henriques, Sr. heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” and he closed his eyes and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, NJ. Douglas was born on January 31, 1940, to the late Sydney Henriques and Gladys West at Browns Town Parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, Douglas peacefully departed this life while a patient at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, NJ. Douglas received his education at the All-Age School in Browns Town, Jamaica. At the age of sixteen, he worked as a farm laborer in Madras, St. Ann Jamaica. In 1962, he migrated to the United States and continued to work as a farm laborer where he later met and joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Kathleen V. Henriques in 1967. From this union, they were blessed with seven children. Despite his fifth grade education, his knowledge of welding and building things from scratch exceeded those who studied in that field. He took pride in creating his three-car garage and making his vintage blue truck that was nothing into something that people would always inquire if he were willing to sell. He was always helping people, cooking, or building something at the house with his vivid imagination. He was a quiet man with a short temperament, a laugh that was loud and infectious, and a pure heart. He would often say, “Peace and Love” and “I know Jesus loves me.” In addition to his parents and wife, Douglas was preceded in death by one sister Daphnie Miller just three days before him, and two brothers Adolphus Agustus Green and Uriah Green. Douglas leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his several children; Pauline Fearon (Winston), Vineland, NJ; Manford Henriques (Jacqueline), Laurel, DE; Douglas Henriques, Jr., Bridgeton, NJ; Patrick Henriques, Lancaster, CA; Bernice Eckeard (Rodney), Bridgeton, NJ; Franseco Henriques, Bridgeton, NJ; Peter Henriques, Bridgeton, NJ; sisters Hortense Green, Trelawney, Jamaica, Halva Green, Montego Bay, Jamaica; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
