Obituary of Morris Gilmore Jarrett, Sr.

Obituary Morris Gilmore Jarrett: The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. He was yours, Lord, before he was ours. We return him to you blessed and grateful to have shared him with you. With heavy hearts and sadness, we announce that Morris Gilmore Jarrett, Sr. departed from this life and went to his home in heaven on September 26, 2020. Morris was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 24, 1925, to Peter and Lillian Jarrett. He was one of four children. He was educated in NY public schools and attended Brooklyn College. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII and earned bronze stars for exemplary service. In 1946, Morris married the late Juanita Johnson-Jarrett. He worked for the US government as a Supply Systems Analyst in Brooklyn, NY, played baseball on a local team, and attended Bethany Baptist Church. Morris and Juanita had three children: son Morris, Jr. and daughters Deborah and Patricia and the family eventually moved to the Bronx, NY. Later, Morris and his family moved to Philadelphia, PA where he purchased his first home. One of Morris’ dreams was for each of his children to graduate from college and his dreams were fulfilled. He was very proud of their achievements and those of his grandchildren Jay Larry and Jasmine Jarrett. While Morris’ and Juanita’s marriage eventually dissolved, their affection for each other remained throughout the years. Morris and Harriet (Candy) Wilson married in July, 1978 and God blessed them with 42 beautiful years of married life. Morris was father to devoted daughter Ketanah Glover and grandfather to his loving grandson, Zachari Glover. Zachari and his grandfather (Poppy) shared an uncommon bond. The family love was precious and shown through times of health and sickness. Morris was a member of Calvary BC in Philadelphia and was Trustee for 24 years including two years as Trustee Chairman. Morris and Harriet eventually moved to Gloucester County, NJ and became members of St. Matthews BC in Turnersville and both served as congregational care members. Morris devoted his life to family. His love of people was genuine and he rarely missed a church function that involved serving others. He read the Bible daily and attended Bible Study. When he was younger, he enjoyed family car trips in his favorite green Buick that he named Bessie. His also enjoyed golfing, cooking, traveling, reading, puzzles, and gardening. He enjoyed taking care of the home and did not mind washing the dishes. Most mornings he greeted Candy with a warm cup of coffee sweetened with love. The Lord blessed Morris with 95 earthly years, and he leaves behind a legacy of love. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Morris leaves to mourn his 97-year-old sister, Iris Hall; his son-in-law, Olden Franklin; his daughter-in-law, René Jarrett, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of friends. He will be greatly missed. He BELIEVED and trusted that when we all get to heaven, we will sing and shout the VICTORY. Lift him up on the wings of angels, and hold him, dear Lord, in the palm of your hand.
