Obituary of Colette G. Jones

Please share a memory of Colette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Colette Gail Jones was born on February 20th, 1954, to the late Virginia Estelle Hooks and the late Claythorne Jesse Horsey. She was raised in the West Oak Lane area of Philadelphia, PA. Colette attended Olney High School where she played sports and sang in the Girls High Choir. Colette began her career at Temple University in 1971. She worked for different departments during her tenure, including payroll, creative services, and risk management. A couple years later she met the love of her life William Jones at a Halloween party in Philadelphia. From this union, two handsome sons were born, Justin and Evin. They were united in marriage on May 14, 1977 and remained married for almost 40 years until her husband William passed away from illness in 2017. Colette retired from Temple University in 2011 after a 39-year tenure. Colette had a plan early on, to gain employment at a collegiate university in order for her children to get a free education. She succeeded in her plan after her son’s Justin and Evin both graduated from Temple University in 2005 and 2011. After retirement she became a Member of the Township of Pennsauken Zoning Board. Colette was loved by her coworkers and many of them became some of her lifelong friends. To her family and friends, her fun-loving personality and spirit were truly unique and one of a kind. Her smile and laugh could light up a room. Some of her fondest memories as a teenager was going to the roller-skating ring with her girlfriends on a Friday night. Colette absolutely loved to sing and dance. She was a music lover who loved to play Motown vinyl records, “The Supremes, Diana Ross, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and especially Marvin Gaye”, the song “What’s Going On” was one of her all-time favorites. Her favorite contemporary hip hop song of all time was “Hypnotize” by The Notorious BIG. Two of her mottos were “you have to know how to read between the lines of a situation” and “you have to be able to think quickly on your feet”. Colette loved spending time with her two sons and grandson Ethan. She loved the beach, traveling, and site seeing. Her favorite places to vacation were Fort Lauderdale and the Florida Keys. Colette was a compassionate and amazing mother, wife, and grandmother who sacrificed much for her family. She was loved and respected by family members and friends. She will be dearly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons: Justin and Evin Jones; stepson: Keith Armour, and grandson: Ethan Jones. She also leaves a host of family and friends who will forever remember her life and legacy.
