Obituary of Margie Rea Conley

Margie Rea Conley (Davis) was born on May 3, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Isabella and Clayton Davis of Ringgold, Virginia. On January 19, 2021, a host of angels encamped around Margie Rea and escorted her from labor to reward. She was a fun-loving child who enjoyed being around family and spending time with her Dad on the farm. She often spoke fondly of her Grandfather (John Abner Davis) sitting around the fireplace with his bible and reading to his grandchildren. As a child, she also enjoyed planting flowers with her Aunt Lucy Stephens (Davis) and spending quality time with her other Aunt Lavania Wimbush (Davis). Even as a child, Margie was a hard worker and would often say “a little hard work never hurt anybody”. That same work ethic was instilled in her sons. As a young adult, she met the love of her life, Floyd Conley. In 1960, she and Maggie Yancey boarded a Greyhound bus and migrated North to Newark, New Jersey. She and Maggie relocated to Clayton, New Jersey where Floyd had already become established. It was there where they rooted themselves and raised six boys. Margie was an avid reader and gardener. She was known for her beautiful flowers inside her home and in the yard. Margie often named her flowers and credits talking to them as one way to keep them healthy. Her faith in God was steadfast, often you would see her reading the bible and praying. Even as her health declined, you could hear her calling on Jesus and saying, “I’m blessed by the best”. She poured out her love of the Lord and encouragement to countless family members, friends, and anyone she met. She would often quote the song, “If I can help somebody, my living will not be in vain”. Margie was legendary for her pancakes and would happily feed anyone that showed up at the kitchen table. However, while at the table you would receive etiquette training and a sermon on life. Margie had a lot of old sayings and proverbs that will live in all of us for the rest of our lives. Margie knew Jesus personally and would gladly at any time share scripture and prayer in person, by phone, or card. She also enjoyed spending time with her “adopted sisters” Maggie Jackson, Josephine Pressley, Ena James. Her eldest son Larrie was her tireless caregiver until she transitioned to Glory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isabella and Clayton Davis; her husband, Floyd Conley; sister, Rachel Witcher and brothers, Perry and John Davis. She is survived by her six boys; Larrie of Glassboro, New Jersey, Randy (Marsha) of Elk Township, New Jersey, Jeffrey of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, Timothy (Veronica) of Newfield, New Jersey, Scott of Hampton, Virginia, Tevis (Maisha) of Mays Landing, New Jersey; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren.
