Obituary of Artie L Swanson

Artie Lee Jefferson Swanson, 97, of Elk Township Lawns, NJ humbly submitted to the ancestral call on February 23, 2021 at her home. She was born on September 25, 1923 in Dry Fork, Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Rev. Thomas William and Lula Paige Perkins Jefferson. She was united in matrimony to the late Claude A Swanson on October 17, 1942 in Danville, VA. To this union eighteen children were born, one in Virginia and the remainder in New Jersey. She was educated in the Pittsylvania County, Virginia School System. She was a member of Guildfield and Silver Creek Baptist Churches in Virginia and, later in life, New Life in Christ Ministries in Franklinville, NJ. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lawns Fire Company. She loved canning, cooking and caring for her flower garden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son Arthur Swanson Sr. (Jewel), sisters Hettie Waller, Lillian Hodnett and Queen Leftwich and brothers Will A., Westley, Bryant, Preston and Raymond Jefferson. Cherishing and honoring her memory are sons Allen, Wayne (Trudy), Robert (Louise), Sylvester, James (Margaret), Coleman (Shirley) and Olton (Stephanie), daughters Delores, Artie, Cozetta, Carriean, Doreen, Trudy (Keith), Ocie (Dale), Deagra (Mark), Celma (Rob) and Eunice, sisters Irene Myers, Velma Barksdale and brother Merlon Jefferson (Louise), grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends also cherish and honor her memory. Finally, she leaves to cherish and honor her memory numerous neighborhood children who had the pleasure of receiving the love, guidance and blessings of “Grandmom” Swanson. Special thanks to the primary caregiver during her later years, daughter Doreen.
