Please share a memory of Eliza to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eliza Jones affectionately known as “Liz” to most and “Mom-Mom” to her grandchildren, was born to the late Lucille and William Singletary on October 23, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the youngest of two children. Eliza moved to Camden, NJ at a young age with her mother and brother. Eliza was educated in the Camden Public School System. She went to Powell Elementary School, Burrough Middle School, and later graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Eliza was introduced to the love of her life, Charles E. Jones by her good friend and his cousin, Jeannette Martin. Charles and Eliza were married on December 3, 1949 and celebrated 70 years of marriage. Three children came out of their union – Nancy, Jennifer, and Vincent. Eliza retired from Bonnell Dress Company in Camden, where she was employed for 21 years. From there, she worked for a few well-known casinos in Atlantic City, NJ, eventually retiring in 1997. Eliza dedicated her life to God and served as a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Pro Cathedral for many years. Eliza was well rounded and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life. She was an avid motorcyclist who rode for many years on the back of the motorcycle with her late husband, Charles. You could often see them riding alongside their late son, Vincent. Of her many hobbies, she enjoyed solving puzzles, number paintings and listening to jazz, particularly Johnnie Mathis. Eliza had a love of cats and dogs. She was a fashionable dresser and always kept her hair done. Eliza was highly creative at in-home decorating. When relaxing, her favorite pastime was drinking beer and watching her favorite television shows, Peter Gun and Gunsmoke, to name a few. On April 16, 2021 heaven accepted another angel when God called her home. Eliza is preceded in death by her father, William Singletary; son, Vincent Jones; mother, Lucille Singletary; and husband, Charles Jones. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bailey and Jennifer Jones; a brother, William Singletary; sister-in-law, Betty Webb; two grandsons, Lloyd Bailey (Paris) and Tyriek Bailey (Tekeesha); one granddaughter, Tomeka Robinson; two great grandsons, Tyriek, Jr. and Tyler; one great granddaughter, London; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
