Obituary of John W Chapman

John Chapman passed away on Tuesday May 11th, 2021 at the age of 74. John affectionately known as “Clutch “was born September 9, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Peggy Billups, sister Lillian Hicks-Robinson, niece Darlene Hicks and his son John Coles. John graduated from the Camden City School System. He went on to work at Camden’s Auto Body Shop and Echelon Ford for the next 30 years as a painter and at the Post office for a short period of time. John loved sports, especially football. His favorite team was the New York Giants. He spent his free time watching his black and white cowboy movies. John was always there to help his family and friends with household projects. He enjoyed cooking his hot and spicy crabs. John would always show up with his personal cooler and was the life of the party. He would dance all night. Family functions and gatherings will never be the same. He was always known to come over your house very early in the morning to start a project or just have a beer with you. Everyone who knew him would tell you he was a character. He would always speak his mind and say how he felt, even if it hurt your feelings. He remained witty and kept his signature strong handshake until the end. John would always say Carol was his buddy, his enemy, his friend, his life, his partner then he would point to his ring finger and show his wedding ring. He and Carol were together/married for over 35 years. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife Carol, Children Dwight (Benneda), Gregory (Missy), Angela (Noel), Grandchildren Ja’Quan, Da’Juan, Harmonee and Gregory Jr, Great Grandchildren Milani, Jaquan Jr. and Jex, 2 sisters Marva and Ethel, 1 brother Harry, 3 sister in laws, 6 brother in laws and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
