Obituary of Esther R Ramsey

Please share a memory of Esther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Esther Roberta James Ramsey was born to Mrs. Rosa Lee Porcher James and Rev. Dozier Thomas James, Sr., on August 30, 1944, in Kingstree, South Carolina. Her education began at Tomlinson Elementary School. She continued her studies, graduating from Tomlinson High School. Upon graduation, she matriculated at Voorhees College, Denmark, South Carolina. Esther continued her studies at Glassboro State College in Glassboro, New Jersey, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Additionally, she earned a Certificate in Library Science from Glassboro State College. She utilized her education and appreciation for children in the classroom. Esther was a longtime employee of the Camden Board of Education. Esther or "Roberta", as she was affectionately called by her family, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Siloam Baptist Church in Kingstree, South Carolina. After relocating to Camden, New Jersey, Esther joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church in 1970. She was a very active member who enjoyed working behind the scenes. Shortly after joining Mt. Calvary, Roberta joined the Senior Choir although she was not a senior. Roberta was a member of the Scholarship Club, she helped with Children’s Church, and she served in the Security Ministry. Roberta was a very special person, a go-getter, achiever, and an amazing gift to all who knew her. She set goals and worked tirelessly to meet them, including being the first among her siblings to purchase her own home. A lover of people, she was known to engage strangers and friends alike in lively conversation, keeping abreast of news from a wide range of topics. Her family lovingly said, “If you want to know, ask Roberta.” Her greatest pride and joy were her sons, William and Reggie. The loss of her youngest, son Reggie, left her heartbroken. We know that she is now safe in the loving arms of Jesus and with her dear Reggie again. Roberta was preceded in death by her son, Reginald Ramsey. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, William L. Ramsey; her son, William T. Ramsey; five sisters, Mary L. James Isbell, Henrietta James Peeples (Edward), Rosa Lee James Graulau, Lillie B. James, Daisy James Echols (Isaiah); two brothers, Rev. Franklin D. James (Sheila), Ernest B. James (Michelle); brother-in-law, Kevin Ramsey (Melissa); Sisters-in-law, Susan James, Patricia Wimbley, Michelle Ramsey; a faithful cousin “sister”, Queen Berry, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
