Obituary
Harold Burton Alexander was born December 5, 1945 in
Brooklyn, New York to the late Frank Alexander and Mina Essie Mae Johnson Alexander. He was raised in the Fort Green Projects and was educated in the Public School System in Brooklyn, New York. Harold graduated from Eastern District High School in the Williamsburg Section of Brooklyn.
Harold accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early
age and was baptized at Zion Shiloh Baptist Church by the late
Reverend J. H. Lofton in Brooklyn, New York. As an adult Harold was baptized in the Name of Jesus by Bishop Namon Johnson at Mt. Zion Commandment Keeping Church in Mt. Holly, New Jersey.
As a youngster, Harold would shine shoes with his brothers, sold franks and hamburgers in the subway, and then worked as a line cook. He began his employment journey as an adult at Rancocas Valley Hospital in Willingboro, NJ. It was at Rancocas Valley Hospital that Harold met the love of his life, Edith Benwell. Edith and Harold were united in holy matrimony on December 16, 1978. Harold later stepped out on faith and started his on business, Nassau Janitorial Service. After retiring from his business, Harold was truly a humanitarian helping others by providing transportation for those in need, working at the shelter in Camden, and visiting the sick.
Harold was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He valued family and loved birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and other family gatherings. Harold’s family knew him for his kind and giving spirit and he strongly believed that “Where there is Love there is Sacrifice, Where there is No Love there is No Sacrifice.”
Harold departed this life at approximately 1:36 PM on Friday,
September 10, 2021 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers
Shelton and Frankie. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Edith, 3 daughters Rene Fladger, Dina Alexander, Simone Alexander and 1 son Andrew Alexander (Tiffany); 8 grandchildren
Jasmine, Antoine, Jordan, Richard, Brandon, Nasir, Devin, and Kairo; and 3 great-grandchildren Jahmir, Jaden, and Vivian; 2 brothers Kevin Alexander and Andre Alexander (Faith); the host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, 1 great-nephew; 1 aunt Mother Catherine Johnson and a host of cousins and friends.
