Life Story
Benjamin Elwood Young Sr. was born on July 6th, 1939, to the union of the late James Young Sr. and Sara Young-Nathan in Camden, New Jersey. Known affectionately to family and friends as “Benny”, his playful and joyful spirit touched and left an impression on everyone he met.
As a long-term Camden City resident, Benjamin was a student of the Camden City Public School System and later became an employee for local landmark businesses such as Campbell Soup and the local Steel Mill. In 1959, he met Doris Irene Stephens, and on December 25, 1962, they were wed. From that union, he had three beloved sons. He was musically inclined and gifted with talents in songwriting, playing the keyboard, guitar, and harmonica. He also had a strong appreciation for the art of story and joke-telling.
On October 3rd, 2021 our beloved “Benny”
departed this life and was called home to be with the Lord. Benjamin was predeceased in death by four sisters, Barbara Hohney, Dorothy Young, Roxanne White, and Rosetta Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Benjamin E. Young Jr., Stanley Young, and Derrick Young, including a host of grandchildren, along with two sisters, Lenore Vera (Carlos), Sandra Young, three brothers, James Young Jr., Ronald Young (Hazel), and Rudolph Young, three aunts, Alice Ingalls, Marcella Lewis, Bernice Logan and a plethora of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends.
