Obituary of Nilsa Gonzalez

Please share a memory of Nilsa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nilsa “Nicha” Gonzalez was born on June 2, 1959 at Bellevue hospital in New York City, NY. Nilsa went home to be with the Lord on October 9th, 2021. In her early life she lived in New York where she met Jose Rivera. The two united and had three children, one of which will greet her in heaven. She then resided in both Philadelphia PA and Camden NJ. In her life Nilsa developed friendships with many people. She was as kind and generous as she was strong and fierce. She was full of compassion for people, especially her family, to a default. She was infectious with her affection. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, mother, and her plants. The bond that she shared with her mother was like no other. Nilsa was faced with many adversities in life with which she overcame with her strong will and resilience. Despite her limited school education she was full of wisdom, and intelligence. She loved literature and writing poetry. She was really good at it! She loved fashion and always dressed to impress. She always made sure her hair was very well styled and makeup had to be perfect! She was the inspiration for many of her younger female family members to look up to when it came to fashion and looks. In her younger years Nilsa loved to party and she knew how to get a crowd going! In the 80’s she was reigned Camdens salsa queen. She loved her salsa music as much as she loved her christian music. For the past 7 ½ years she was a devoted child of God. She found comfort and delight in becoming one of Gods warriors. Her last days were spent studying the bible, volunteering as a sunday school teacher and sharing her testimony aloud. She is survived by her mother Maria Gonzalez, her sister Dalia Gonzalez, her brother Nelson Gonzalez, Daughter Jeanie Rivera, Son David Rivera, and grandchildren Ciara, Justin, Branden, David, Dominic, and Darius, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.
