Obituary of Kevin Streater
Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kevin Streater, affectionally known by friends and family as "Big Kev and Streat," was born on September 15th 1958, in Princeton, NJ. Kevin attended the Princeton Public school system until 1972. He moved to Willingboro, NJ in 1972 where he attended the Willingboro Public School system, graduating from Willingboro Highschool in 1977. While in high school, Kevin was an outstanding athlete. He was a member of the Willingboro Highschool Chimera track team where he ran the 100 yard dash, 4 by 100 relay team, and the mile relay team. To this day, Kevin's mile relay team holds the record at the Woodbury relays, that will never be broken because races these days are measured by the meters whereas in the 1970's races were measured in yards. Kevin also excelled in basketball, having superior ball handling skills. He could be found at the basketball courts growing up and also played for a league at his former employer PSE&G.
After graduating from high school, Kevin had met and fell in love with his soul mate Darlene King. They would date for nearly 7 years and ended up marrying on July 7, 1984. Out of this union, they would celebrate the birth of their sons Kevin Michael (1984) and Rod William (1988). Kevin was employed by PSE&G as an apprentice utility lineman and later in his career was promoted to chief lineman working for over 22 years. Kevin always put his family first, working long hours to provide for his wife and two boys. He took pride in everything he did, whether it be home repairs to maintaining his amazing lawn, Kevin knew hard work speaks for itself. He was also competitive, playing blackjack and dice at the young age of 8, becoming an exceptional chess player, and a formidable card player amongst family and friends in spades, poker and mainly pinochle. Kevin loved music, had a vast collection of classic R&B and Jazz CD's.
Kevin is survived by his mother Sharon Rose Streater-Lecompt, two sons Kevin Michael Streater, Rod William Streater (Tina); 2 grandchildren Haisley Rae Streater, Jaxon Cruz Streater; two Brothers Derek Streater (Cindy), Paul Lecompt Jr, two sisters Sharon Lecompt, Laura Lecompt; in laws (Richard King Jr, Dawn King, and Denise Thomas (John); A host of nieces, nephews, and friends and companion Johnnie Freeman. Kevin is predeceased in his death by his wife Darlene Streater, his father Paul Lecompt Sr, brothers Harold Richardson, Kim Streater, and nephew Marcus Thompson.
