Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Williams was born on March 1, 1952 to the late Walter Joyner and Delphia Johnson (nee Johnson) in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was the fourth of six children born to that union. Barbara graduated from Baton High School for girls located in Elizabeth, NJ in 1970. Afterward, she started working for LNC novelty accessories in Elizabeth NJ until her marriage Lloyd in January 1972. At that time, Lloyd was a young sergeant in the U.S Air Force and their first assigned base was Dover Air Force Base in Dover Delaware. This began 26 years of being an active-duty military spouse. Barbara loved the adventure and responsibility of being an Air Force wife. In the early years she joined social groups set aside for military wives, entertained Tupperware, Home Interior, and Avon parties in her home. She loved getting her children involved with the process, and the benefits that came from being a hostess. Known for being very shy, Lloyd was very proud of her stepping out of her comfort zone and building these social ties in the community. After her husband retired from the Air Force and began a new career, Barbara began working for the Commissary until transferring to the military childcare center (CDC1) for eight years. She loved working there with her staff family and the children. She felt so at home there. After relocating, she began a new career working for Walmart, and that spanned ten years of dedicated service that she was recognized for at her location as an exemplary company employee in the health and beauty department. She enjoyed the praises and keeping her department in great order and training newcomers in the process. She ended her career with Walmart after an unfortunate automobile accident. Barbara departed from this earthly life suddenly on Friday, October 22, 2021 after a battling multiple complications related to a massive stroke that occurred in May 2021. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband Lloyd Williams, her parents, Walter and Delphia Joyner(nee Johnson), and her siblings George Joyner, Henry L “Hank” Joyner, and Julia M. Allen (nee Johnson). Left to cherish her legacy are her children: LaKeish Williams of Willingboro NJ, Sonya Trenna Gowdy (nee Williams) of Burlington Township, NJ, and Shawn Laron Williams of Burlington Township; her grandchildren: Saniah Nyelli Williams, Zakari “Zak” Dwayne Gowdy, and Zamari Giani Gowdy, her son -in-law Dwayne Andre Gowdy of Burlington Township, NJ. Left also to cherish her loss are her siblings: Anna R. Joyner of Elizabeth, NJ and Willie J. “Danny” Joyner of Hampton, South Carolina. Also left to grieve her loss are a host of cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
