Obituary of Josephine G Anderson

Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Josephine Geneva Anderson, age 102, passed away at the Palace Care Center in Maple Shade, NJ on December 1, 2021, just 4 days short of her birthday. She was born on December 5, 1919 to the late George and Bertha Anderson. She was the 10th of fourteen children who attended the Merchantville Public Schools and were also members of the Asberry Methodist Church in Merchantville. Josephine relocated to Philadelphia where she became a member of National Temple Baptist Church. She was baptized at an early age and began spending more time with her youngest siblings Bertha, Warren, and Fred. Together they formed a gospel group with their brothers as the pianists. During World War Two, Josephine worked as a civilian munition's processor in Philadelphia. Times were difficult but Josephine learned that she was able to conquer almost every adversity. Josephine possessed the gifts of “conversation” and sensitivity. She could and would talk to anyone in their darkest hours. Her compassion extended to her skill in the kitchen. Josephine would make meals for friends of her children and strangers alike. For over 20 years, she was involved in community programs with Bright Hope Baptist Church, especially the Get Set Program for young children, recreational sports events, musical recitals, and the collection and distribution of clothing to the needy in the community. Like many in the family, she embraced entrepreneurship. Her craftsmanship in crocheting quilts, pillows, Christmas wreathes, and other items spread love through the community with her unique goods. Of her six children she leaves to mourn one son, William Daniel and one daughter, Sharon Benn. She was preceded in death by her children Carl, Richard, Florence, and Joseph, as well as her granddaughter Micha. Micha served as her close confidant and caregiver later in their lives. She is also survived by at least 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
