Celebrating The Life & Legacy of Wendell Eric Frazier Wendell Eric Frazier was the youngest child of the late Rev. William Earl Frazier, Sr. and the late Effie Mae Henry-Frazier. He was born on September 16, 1963, at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Wendell was educated in the New York City public school system. He grew up in a close relationship with his favorite sister and two brothers. As the youngest, he was never without love and protection. Wendell enjoyed talent nights, family outings, and even some mischief. He was always intuitive, thoughtful, and talented. He sang with his brother Wayne, close cousins and family friends in a group named “CoFraEllis.” He also played shortstop on his little league baseball team and enjoyed repairing cars. Wendell was also a great preacher when he played church with his siblings. Raised in the church, as a young boy Wendell sang in a youth choir that traveled with his father. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord as a teenager and was baptized at Greater Bright Light Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, (Rev. H. Devore Chapman, Pastor). Under his father’s pastorship, he later served as a musician and soloist at Milerson Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. During Wendell’s young adult years, he became bound in a life of addiction. In his own words of testimony, he would say, “I found myself willing to try anything to get free from addiction. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.” After trying several programs, hope found him in the form of an outpatient rehab program called People United to Save Our Children, which connected him to a long-term Christian program in Camden, New Jersey. In November 1987, Wendell entered My Brother’s Keeper where the director, Miguel Torres, and staff received him with an abundance of love and compassion. It was there that his life was irrevocably changed. After two weeks in the program, Wendell prayed, surrendered, and rededicated his life to Jesus and was baptized again. Wendell began his fellowship with Antioch Baptist Church (Rev. John O. Parker, Jr., Pastor) while in My Brother’s Keeper. It did not take long for him to become a full member of Antioch. Wendell’s zeal for the Lord drew him to the church’s outreach ministry called Jesus King of the Streets. The Lord used Wendell mightily time and time again on the streets. His testimony was (and still is) a powerful witnessing tool upheld by Philippians 1:12, “Now I want you to know brothers, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel” and Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Wendell loved to sing. He used this gift to serve on Antioch’s Gospel Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Praise and Worship Team, Special Music Department, and as a soloist many times. Over recent years, he enjoyed serving as choir director alongside Dr. Beverly Collins at Morning Star Baptist Church in Woodstown, New Jersey (Rev. Benjamin Mike, Pastor). On November 7, 1996, Wendell was ordained to the office of Deacon at Antioch. It was a day of great honor for him. He loved the time he served as a Deacon. The brotherhood and friendships that God gave him meant so much to him throughout the years. In 1988, Wendell and Cynthia Hughes met while serving on Antioch’s outreach team. For two and one-half years they associated only as friends, as brother and sister in Christ. However, in the summer of 1990, God revealed His plan for them. In obedience to God, they were married on December 8, 1990. This union blessed Wendell with a daughter, Taisha, who he affectionately called “Baby Girl.” On January 30, 1993, the family celebrated the birth of Joshua Aaron. Wendell greatly treasured his family. The union of Wendell and Cynthia has been a love story written by God for 31 years. It was not always easy, but it was worth it. To God be the glory for the things He has done. Wendell was a fun, loving, charismatic, quick-witted, caring, and nurturing person. His jovial way brought smiles and laughter to many. He was multi-talented with a servant’s spirit. In most situations, he would quickly assess the need and appropriately address it. He took pride in providing loving care for both his mother and his mother-in-law during difficult moments in their lives. With his great love for family, Wendell passionately led the search to connect with his youngest brother Derrick Allard, through which an endearing relationship blossomed among the siblings. Throughout his adult life, Wendell especially loved music, fashion, cooking, and cleaning. He held various positions including mailroom clerk and dry cleaner. He took immense pride in his work as church custodian for Antioch Baptist Church, and as Environmental Service Manager for Sodexo at several health care facilities. He also ministered to patients he encountered while working. As an entrepreneur, Wendell owned and operated Good and Faithful Cleaning Services, and was an extraordinary DJ. In His sovereignty, God peacefully called Wendell to his eternal rest on Monday, January 3, 2022. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest brother, Hon. Min. William E. Frazier, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cynthia; daughter, Taisha; son, Joshua; sister, Estelle Frazier-Ruffin, Clayton, NC; brothers, Rev. Wayne E. Frazier, Columbia, SC and Derrick Allard (Cheryl), Schertz, TX; sister-in-law, Charmelle Hughes, Dover, DE, uncles, aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, co-workers, and friends.
