Obituary of Cynthia M. Jackson

Please share a memory of Cynthia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” - John 14:2 Cynthia Marie Jackson, daughter of late Clarence and Dorothy Marie Cook, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 18th, 1941. She was the eldest of seven children. Two of her siblings preceded her in death, Mr. Bernard Cook and Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown. She gave her life to Christ at an early age, after which she became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Philadelphia. In later years she joined the congregation of the New Covenant Church of Philadelphia, where she enjoyed the services of the Rev. Bob Oliver. After graduating from West Philadelphia High School, Cynthia attended Cheyney University, where she majored in Education and received a Bachelor of Science degree. She began working at the Philadelphia school district and was hired as a middle school teacher with the Chester Upland School district for 32 years until she retired in 1999. During her many years as an educator, she was beloved by students and colleagues alike, some of whom became life-long friends, including Mrs. Ernestine and Mr. Harvey Miller, Sr., Mrs. Alma Shepard, Mrs. Febere and Dr. Edward Williams, Mrs. Tamika and Malcolm Smith, Mrs. Carol Walker, and Mrs. Diane Harding. Cynthia was joined in the holy matrimony to Howard C. Jackson, her college sweetheart, who also graduated from Cheyney University as an educator. Out of this union was born a daughter, Michelle Jackson, who resides in Greenville, South Carolina. Throughout her life, Cynthia pursued many interests, including gardening, opera, orchestra, and jazz concerts, reading, traveling as well as being a doting grandmother to her two beloved granddaughters, Monique and Jocelyn. She also had a loving relationship with her son-in-law, James Dobson. Although she spent the last few years battling several illnesses, she was able to keep her sense of humor, often known by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Michelle Dobson, grand-daughters Monique and Jocelyn Dobson; son-in-law James Dobson; her sisters Janice Cook, Beverly Burton, Iris Cox; her brother Carl Cook; brother-in-law Earl Cox; Reverend Dr. Delores Booker, and the entire Booker family spread across VA, DE, MD, TX, and CA; Lloyd Jeffries; Glenda Henderson. Her nieces and nephews, including Natalie and Marcus Brown; Angela and Russell Cox; Aaron and Jason Burton; Rasheed Smith-Cook; Elaina, Tiffany and Matthew Cook; Gail Bynum, Robin Oliver, and Chris Miller. She was “auntie Cyn” to her great-nieces and nephews. These include Latifah Brown; Taylor, Tyler, and Tanner Lewis, Talora Cox; Russia, Riley, and Russel Cox III; Erin and Orianna Burton; Madison Lewis and Kai McDuffie-Lewis; Micaela Stokes, Ethan Williams and a host of cousins and friends. Lovingly Submitted, The Family
