James L. Gardner was born on November 14, 1945 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. James L. He was raised in a loving home and educated in the Cherry Hill School system, where he excelled in athletics. After graduating from Cherry Hill West, Jimmy was drafted in the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War. Jimmy owned and operated Gem’s Auto in Camden for over 40 years which was one of the many shops founded in Camden. Jimmy was a mentor to numerous at risk youth in the community. He would train anyone who wanted to learn about auto mechanics. Jimmy was an avid fisherman with his own boat he named the “Jimmy Lee”. He would frequently travel to Fortescue, New Jersey, which is known as a good place to “drop a line”. He knew his way around the kitchen as well, not only grilling or cooking but baking pastries and his “famous” hearty garden salads. On August 11, 1984, he married the love of his life, Monee Gardner, who was his partner and devoted wife for 40 years. They married on the same lot where he would build their future home, in the presence of family and friends they expressed their unwavering love that continued throughout the years. It was clear and evident he had met his soul mate as they would often be found in deep conversation around the kitchen table sharing a meal. Jimmy was predeceased by his mother and father and several brothers and sisters. To cherish his memory, he leaves 2 sisters, Carol and Dorothy and 1 brother, Billy. His children, James, Tina, Kisha (Tim Mason) and Leroy. A host grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a father-figure and mentor to many. Love, The Family I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will reward to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
