Obituary of Evagean F McGee

Please share a memory of Evagean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Very quietly and peacefully on Thursday, 17 February 2022, The Good Shepherd in his infinite wisdom, gently reached down and called Evagean F. McGee home to rest. Evagean F. McGee was born on February 1,1933 in Durham, North Carolina. She was the daughter to the late Irene and Raymond Bryant. She attended elementary school and was also baptized at an early age while living in Kinston, North Carolina. In 1946, she moved to New Jersey where she attended Burlington High School and the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Evagean married her high school sweetheart, Nathaniel H. McGee on June 26, 1950, and to this union eight children were born, one daughter, Celeste McGee deceased. Her loving husband of 53 years went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2003. She enjoyed traveling, her church family, being a member of the Red Hat Society, spending time with the Golden Girls (now deceased Deaconess Doris Edy, Deaconess Mary Williams) and Betty Rosser and being in the company of her children, grandchildren, great-grand children and close friends. While living in Beverly, she was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church belonging to the Senior Choir and Usher Board Auxiliaries. Upon moving to Cinnaminson, NJ, she chose the Evergreen Baptist Church, Palmyra, NJ under the pastorship of Rev. Guy Campbell Jr., to continue her Christian discipleship. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member. Determined to work out her soul salvation, she was a very active member of the Senior Usher Board, Deaconess Ministry, John Sheepfold and President, Pastor’s Aide. Her life was a testament to Philippians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” and she gave God the glory daily for all the great things that he had done in her life. Her Christian work was not confined to just her church. She also dedicated her life working with challenged youth at the Johnstone Training Center School and retired after 30 years of service. In the spirit of excellence and always striving to be an example to her family, she returned to Palmyra High School and received her diploma in 1982. She leaves to embrace and cherish her memory, her sister Celeste B. Harris (Irvin) of Atlanta, GA; son Nathaniel Jr. (Karen) of Columbia, SC; daughter Maria Bennett of Delran, NJ; son John F. McGee of Winnipeg, Canada; son Kelvin McGee of Pennsauken, NJ; daughter Z. Denise Sheppard (Melvin) of Moorestown, NJ; son Alan McGee of Cinnaminson, NJ; daughter Deidre J. McGee of Delran, NJ; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, long time family friends Arlene Shaffer and Ernest Merritt; Caretakers Ruby Lee and Tanya Myers, and a host of relatives and friends.
