DOROTHY LOUISE GREEN, daughter of late the John S. Green and Leatrice Letia Green. She was born on December 6, 1939 in Mount Vernon, NY. She quietly went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, April 28, 2022. Dorothy, known as Sister Green, was active in her church serving the Lord at New Life Family Bible Church, Newark NJ; under the Pastoral care of Reverend Tyrone Sharpe, Sr. & First Lady Rose Sharpe. She was a faithful witness for the Lord and had a strong passion to witness to the lost and tell people about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, being always spiritually led to invite them to the church she loved. She provided excellent service for 30+ years in several capacities: armor bearer, usher, prayer warrior and sometimes sang on the choir. When appropriate she would offer wise advice as a mother in the church. Dorothy graduated from Edison High School in Mt. Vernon, NY 1958. She was very resourceful and intelligent with a stellar ability to learn and comprehend, in her late 40’s she obtained a Certificate for Computer Science with Honors. She started working at the age of 11, ironing shirts for factory workers. After high school she worked as personal Home Health Aide for a wealthy Lawyer’s wife. She went on to become a Bank Teller at the Bank of New York, Carvel Ice Cream Manager at Carvel’s Ice Cream Parlor, and lastly but progressively promoted to office manager at the Veterans Administration Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey. She retired at the age of 79 after 30 years of employment. Dorothy was a great blessing to her beloved family. Married at the age of 19 to Kermit Barksdale they had four children 1 son and three daughters. Her son died as an infant. She later married the late Marshall Brown. She raised her three girls with a closely guided and protective, loving, firm hand. Whom she kept involved in a variety of activities (swimming, sewing, crocheting, and summer camp). Myra Barksdale-Hylton (preceded her in death), Elvira Barksdale, Darlene Barksdale and her Niece-Daughter Lisa (Frankie Harris). Her loving siblings who preceded her in death were older sister, Geraldine Green and younger brother John Green Jr. She was affectionately called Nuna by her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. Grand Children in age order are Javane Davies (Christopher Davies), Melissa Reed, Athalia Alvarenga (Jesslin Alvarenga), Jeremy Reed and Valayna Dunkley. God blessed her to enjoy talking, seeing and playing with her great grandchildren; oldest to the youngest: Jamar Jenkins, Imara L. Reed, Harmony Reed, Aria Williams, Isaiah Alvarenga, Jeremiah Reed, Jace Jenkins, Maia-King Montgomery, and Cairo Davies. She also had a host of other great nieces and nephews, and close cousins.
