Obituary of Walter Lee Bennett

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter Lee Bennett was born January 3, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Walter Rupert Bennett and Mae Anna Lackey. He was educated in the Philadelphia school system and received his high school diploma by continuing his education in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a child Walt would visit Statesville, NC in the summers with his mom and to this day when he spoke you would believe he was born in North Carolina. In May of this year Walt accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior – asking “How do I believe – Show me how to believe.” Having accepted Jesus Christ, he is now absent from the body and present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5-8 In 1960 Walt joined the Marines and served his country with an honorable discharge. He was a proud Marine and whenever he would pass someone in Marine gear like a cap or tee-shirt, he would always say Semper Fi. In 1965 Walt was employed by the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO). He worked at night until 1994. During those 29 years he would work smaller daytime jobs, one standout was The Philadelphia Board of Education (11 years). When you got in his car, he would most likely be listening to Bob Marley or B.B. King. Walt and Cal (as he would call his wife) loved to travel. He loved Jamaica (hence Bob Marley). Every year for over 20 years Walt would work the grills for a family and friends barbecue. Oh, did we have fun! His other passions were the Philadelphia Eagles and the 76ers. Walt met his wife Carolyn one month after getting out of the Marines. They were married August 29, 1965. He was precede in death by his oldest son, Walter Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Carolyn of 56 plus years. He also leaves to mourn two sons Eric Sr. and wife Stephany of Tampa, FL and Wayne Sr. and fiancé Lynette Lewis of Sicklerville, NJ, sister Diane Stroman and husband John of Philadelphia, PA., sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Khalil Williams, Terrance Ray and wife Valerie and Michael Ray. Six grandchildren: Eric Jr., Evonte, Eseandre, Asia, Al and Wayne Jr., five great grandchildren, nieces Laurie and Raina and nephew Johnathan and a host of family and friends.
