Obituary of Raymond A. Rogers

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Raymond Anglish Rogers of Pleasantville, NJ departed this life Wednesday August 17th at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, NJ. Ray was born August 30, 1980 in Somers Point, NJ to Janice Rogers and Ervin Hayes. He graduated from Ocean City High in 2000 and attended Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA. Ray passed away suddenly just one week after losing the woman he loved and eleven months after losing his sister. An amazing athlete, Ray “Flaming Raymond" was one of the best football players in the history of OCHS Red Raider football. In just three years, he secured his legacy as a member of both the OCHS All-Century Football Team and the Cape-Atlantic League’s All-Century Team. He still holds the record for most interceptions to this day and the most points ever scored by a varsity freshman. His love of sports didn’t stop at football, Ray also enjoyed playing basketball and racing his cousins and uncles when he had the chance. If there was any game on he was watching it, was a die-hard Seminole and San Francisco 49er’s fan. He worked as a chef for many years at the Tuckahoe Inn, Raimondo’s, Hard Rock Café, and most recently the Atlantic City Convention Center. He was one of the kindest, most loving, and respectful men you’ll ever meet. Ray had a joke for every occasion. You could not be in a room with him and remain sad because he would keep you laughing. He loved his family very deeply and always reached out if he hadn’t heard from one of his loved ones. Ray especially enjoyed spending time with his children, parents, and siblings. Most people have a favorite cousin, uncle, sibling, or child….Ray didn’t. He loved everyone with his whole heart. Ray was predeceased by maternal grandparents; Celestine (Joe) Gerald and Raymond Rogers, paternal grandparents: Kinzy and Curlyphine Hayes; siblings: Katrina Young, Eric Hunt, and Patricia Rogers, and the love of his life Regina Schairer. He leaves to cherish 6 children; Jaden, Kalla, Lenox, Zy’Rainalyn, Raymond, and Kambriella; parents: Janice Rogers and Ervin Hayes; 2 brothers: Byron Hayes of Atlantic City, NJ and Ervon Hayes of Charlotte, NC; 2 sisters: Monique (Mike) Lubrano of Ocean City and Lasasha (David) Glass of Egg Harbor Township NJ; 3 aunts Bessie Mae (Ben) Edwards and Margaret H. Taylor of Mullins SC, and Joanne (Steve) Gerald of Somers Point, NJ; 2 uncles: Richard (Caroline) Gerald of Somers Point, NJ and Frank Rogers of Atlanta, GA.; over a dozen nieces and nephews and a host other family and friends. He will be missed.
