Ester Laurencin was the first child of the union of the late Sylvia and Leon Laurencin. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joi Laurencin.   Ester was a native of Philadelphia PA. She graduated cum laude from the prestigious Philadelphia High School for Girls. As a student at Girls High, Ester conducted the orchestra and served as the grand marshal for the band during her junior and senior year. She was an accomplished musician playing both the clarinet and oboe. Ester was honored with several full scholarships for music including the world renowned Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, OH. She chose to begin her college education at Hampton University, then transferring to Penn State before attending and graduating from Drexel University Philadelphia, PA, where she majored in Home Economics with a minor in Expository Writing. As a student at Drexel University, Ester led the Student Union, used her fluency in French as an interpreter, participated in All City Orchestra and Band, co-founded the first gospel choir, was active in the Newman Center Student Organization and participated in the Writers Guild Club on campus. She was an avid writer of poetry and short stories as well as an impressive spoken word performer throughout the city of Philadelphia.     Ester was a well-loved person who always had a kind word of encouragement to say to others. She was a diligent person who received many honors for community service. Ester held high values and a strong belief in God. Her life accomplishments have left a legacy for many generations to come. She was an inspiration to all who met her. She will be forever missed.   Ester is survived by her two sons, Samuel ( Nicole) Laurencin of Cheshire, CT and Scott Laurencin of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Lisa ( Dennis) Tunstall; one brother, Alexander Muhammad; grandchildren, Olivia and Julian Laurencin; two nieces, Dionna ( Drew) Gray, Danielle Tunstall; one nephew, Dennis Tunstall, Jr; one great niece, Delina Gray; and a host of caring and supportive cousins and friends.
