Obituary of Barry Matthews

Barry Matthews affectionately known as Unc/OG passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023. Barry was born on Monday, March 12,1962 to the late Bobby-Ann (Barbra Brown) Matthews in Parksley, Virginia. Barry grew up in Maryland with his brother Larry and grandmother Maggie until his teenage years. During his teenage years he went up to Cedarville, NJ with his mother. Barry had many skills. He was a great carpenter, welder, and all-around handy man. He was always willing to help put something together or build something from scratch. One of his favorite sayings was “Girl/Man I got you I can build anything just slide me a few dollars a lil $40-$60.” Barry loved a good cold drink, some good food, good scenery and to sit around and talk and occasionally reminisce about back in the day. Barry was a straight shooter no chaser type of person. Hate it or love it he was going to tell you how he felt whether you asked or not. Most importantly Barry loved his family and had a good heart. Bad terms or good terms he was going to ask about his family and make sure they were ok. If he could make the function, he would be there and if he could not, he wanted all the info on what happen at the function. Barry was one of a kind. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed. Barry was preceded in death by his wife Vivian Gillis. His sister Faith C. Matthews, brother Larry Matthews and niece Reeyanah Davis. To cherish his memories are his sister-in-law, Diane Matthews. Nephews Eric Matthews and Russell Davis (Tyniesha), nieces Japonica Darkwah (Charles) and Quiandra Davis and a host of other loving relatives including his great nieces/nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins.
