Obituary of Ruden McCullough

Please share a memory of Ruden to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruden (pronounced Ru-deen) Shivers McCullough, daughter of the late Callie Shivers Porter and stepdaughter of Thomas Porter, was born August 7, 1929, in Carrollton, Georgia. On March 30, 2023, she smoothly transitioned from this life to her eternal home in heaven much the same way she lived her life on earth; quietly and gently, surrounded by loved ones. Ruden accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age, while attending Poplar Springs Methodist Church, where they were serviced by a traveling minister who made is preaching circuit throughout the area. She was educated in the public school of Poplar Springs where she met Clyde McCullough. Clyde and Ruden were married on June 16, 1951. They were blessed with four children, Clyde, Jr., Willie Thomas, Callie and Runell. The family moved to North Philadelphia briefly and purchased a home in Lawnside, NJ in the early 1960’s. She was a loving and caring wife and mother making certain her children were brought up in the fear of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ruden joined Grace Temple Baptist and was active in the Ushers ministry and Vacation Bible School. She was the favorite babysitter for many of the neighborhood children. Ruden loved to crochet and had the unique ability to see a crocheted item and then reproduce it perfectly without any written directions or illustrations. Ruden was also an excellent quilter as well and produced beautiful hand stitched quilts that she could have sold but never did. Instead, she simply gave them away to many of her relatives and friends. She made a quilt for each of her children and her five grandchildren all received their very own guilt made by Mom-mom. Along with her passion for crocheting and quilting Ruden loved flowers and had stunningly beautiful flower beds surrounding her home every summer. Ruden was employed for more than 20 years at Lakeland Healthcare Center (now Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center where she provided the same loving care to patients that she would to her own family. She retired in the early 1990’s. Ruden was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde McCullough, Sr. She is survived by her four children, Clyde Jr., (Judy), Willie Thomas, Callie Poole (Wayne deceased), Runell; five grandchildren, James, Janine, Clyde III (Kimberly), Wesley (Marquita), Wayne II (Melinda); eight great grand-children; Trinity, Genesis, Malachi, Catalaya, Jamiliah, Wayne III, and Peyton; Cousin Mable Smalls; Niece Mary Dean Pinknard and a host of relatives and friends.
