Obituary for Wendell H. “Dell” Adkins Wendell Hayden Adkins was born on December 17, 1946 to William Adkins and Ann (Hayden) Adkins in Camden, New Jersey. On June 1, 2023 God called Wendell home after several years of health issues. Wendell was educated in the Camden City School system and graduated from Camden High School in 1964. After graduation Wendell served in The United States Air Force and stationed at Fort Dix, NJ and McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas. He served in the military from 1964-1968. While in the service his rank was Sergeant and he played on the Air Force national basketball team. After leaving the military, Wendell went to Rowan University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Sales and Marketing. Upon completing his degree he moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey. He worked as a Alcohol & Drug Counselor for several years. Wendell also worked as a Bell Desk Captain at Bally’s Park Place Casino Hotel for 34 years. He retired in 2015. Wendell met, fell in love and married Gwendolyn A. Coleman on April 21, 1996. They were married for 27 years until his death. Wendell enjoyed buming all types of music on CD’s and talking with friends and family about sports, traveling & visiting other cities and countries. In 2017, he was diagnosed with having Parkinson’s. Until his illness you could catch him walking on the Boardwalk or talking to friends on the back bay in Atlantic City. He will always be remembered as the” life of the party”. He and Gwen enjoyed attending concerts in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Wendell was preceded in death by his father, William Adkins, mother, Ann Adkins, and daughter, Tamara R. Coleman. Wendell will forever be cherished by his wife, Gwendolyn A. Adkins (Atlantic City, NJ), son, Wendell Adkins, Jr., (Lenexa, Kansas), mother-in-law, Janie M. Coleman (Williamstown, NJ), sister-in-law, Joyce Coleman (Williamstown, NJ), two grandchildren: Briana Marie Schoefield (Independence, Missouri) and Moses M. Walker (Williamstown, NJ) and a host of cousins and friends.
