Obituary of Richard Allen Dixon

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard A. Dixon was born on July 9, 1952, in Delair (Morrisville), NJ, to the late James and Juanita Dixon. He was the fourth of 10 children. On the morning of September 10th, Richard passed away peacefully at home with an abundance of family by his side. Richard received his education through the Pennsauken School District and was a lifelong resident of Delair. “Richie” or “Rich”, as affectionately known by his friends and family, had a great love for music, leading him to take lessons on how to play the drums and starting a band with his childhood friends. He had a special relationship with his dog Precious and a passion for his cats. As a youth he participated in Boy Scouts. Richard and his brother Piccolo had the best time of their lives playing baseball and even played in several Black leagues including the Soul Brothers of Pennsauken. Richard’s employment included following his father’s work ethic at Parisi Recycling for almost 40 years. He also worked as a Material Handler for OEO and Gas Attendant at Exxon Gas Station. Richard had a love for many things, but what he loved most was his family. He enjoyed spending time in Palmyra with his son Richie, his weekly calls with his daughter Lorraine and check-ins with his grandchildren. He was also excited to celebrate proms and graduations with his grandchildren. Richard enjoyed taking his great nieces and nephews for walks in the stroller around Delair and he always made sure he had a special nickname for each one of the kids (Mad Dog, Big Eyes, Gas Bag, Lip Lip, Sally Star, and Parker). He loved telling jokes, dancing and listening to his music. One of his favorite songs was “Just Be My Lady”. In his final days at home his last request was to have a party where he could watch his family dance and enjoy themselves. If you knew Richard, you knew he was the life of the party. Richard was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Juanita Dixon, brother Clarence, sister Carlissa, and great grandson Karter. He leaves to cherish his memory; his children Lorraine and Richard 3rd (Denisha); his brothers James (Julie) and Dave; sisters Dianna, Juanita, and Angelina (Hampton); granddaughters Champagne, Yasmeen, Alonja, and Daniya; great grandsons Tamont and Yazir. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
