Obituary of Mervin Olsen Saunders

Mervin Olsen Saunders (Shooby) was born May 17, 1950 to the late Leon Saunders, Sr, and Malvenia (Gould) Saunders. He went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2023. He attended Bridgeton Public Schools where he met and married Bernetta (Hill) Saunders in 1968. From this union, they had 3 beautiful children Sonya, Mervin, and Paulline. He enjoyed family gatherings, building and racing cars at the Atco racetrack and down the back roads of upper Deerfield, mainly Housted Station Road. He also loved fishing, crabbing and his snacks. He worked as a tire service man and side jobs as a mechanic. Shooby leaves to cherish his memory, his oldest daughter Sonya Wright (Warren) of Bridgeton NJ, his only son Mervin R. Saunders, Sr (Carol) of Vineland NJ, and his baby girl Paulline Saunders of Petersburg VA. His sister Lena Pierce of Newfield NJ, 2 brothers Robert (Dorothy) and Marvin, both of Vineland NJ. Mervin leaves 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by 5 brothers Leon, Melvin, Joseph, William, and Morris, 4 sisters Malvenia Jones, Gertrude Pernell, Shirley Pierce, Patricia Saunders, and second wife Sheila Brown-Saunders. Mervin’s children would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to all who have expressed their sympathy and your prayers for us at this time.
