Obituary of Thaddus McCollum Strickland

Celebrating the Life of Thaddus McCollum Strickland Thaddus McCollum Strickland was born on June 19, 1931, in Shepherd, Tennessee to the parents of Horace and Addie Strickland. Thaddus attended Booker T Washington High School in Shepherd, Tennessee until he enlisted in the Army in 1948. He was there from 1948 until 1972..He was a Sergeant 1st Class. He was honorably discharged. While in the Army, he met his wife, Lurene Dixon. They were joined in matrimony on August 8, 1959. After the Army, Thaddus worked for the U S Postal Service in Wayne, Pennsylvania for 20 years until his retirement. Thaddus was a long time member of Mother Bethel AME. Over the years he had served on various boards and was a member of the Cathedral Choir. Thaddus enjoyed listening to Handels Messiah and the Morgan State University Choir. He was also very proud to be a former commander of VFW Post #8003 in Lawnside, NJ. On November 1, 2023, Thaddus was called home to be with the Lord. He has now joined Heaven to be with his parents, Horace and Addie; his wife of 63 years, Lurene; brothers, Horace Strickland Jr., Ralph Strickland, Buddy Strickland, Bobby Strickland, Sam Strickland, & Howard Strickland. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Kendra Lynn Strickland, son Curtis Strickland, sister Alice Strickland-Hightower of Chattanooga ,TN, and his sister-in-law Elnora Dixon. Truly great family friends Stephanie Watson, and Kelly Dowtin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
