Minister Karen V Council was born May 28th, 1955, in Camden New Jersey to the late Gertrude Bullock (Ms. Honey) and Russell Watson. Karen was the second child in a family of eight children.
Karen attended the Camden City school district and graduated from Camden High School AKA the Castle on the Hill in 1973. She extended her education at Glassboro State College and received her Associate Degree. Later in life she studied at Jameson's School of Ministry and Theology. Karen became a licensed Minister in 2022. She was a very active member of The Breath of Life Ministries, The Women of Joy, sang with Bishop Joel Adams & Company and the voices of Zion.
Karen worked for Head Start for 40 years before retiring. There she taught, met and touched so many people's lives. After retiring She worked for Bernice Miller daycare center. Her love for teaching didn't stop there she was a substitute teacher for the Camden County Board of Education.
Karen was saved in 1983. She was a very active member of Antioch Baptist Church. She would pile up as many family and neighborhood friends (1243 Jackson Street) as she could in her Chevy Chevette and take them to outings and church.
Minister Karen was a very loving, caring and compassionate person who always tried to help people in need. She loved to preach and teach the word of God! She enjoyed making family favorites like lasagna and pasta salad. Karen enjoyed teaching Bible study in the Community Center at her Apartments, preaching on the radio, plants, shopping and fellowshipping after church at what she called it the "slop pot"! Everything was in her mother's voice (Ms. Honey) "No Good"!
Karen was the true definition of a fashionista and diva who was very outspoken, sassy and classy! You could always count on seeing her in a sharp outfit with cute shoes, beautiful accessories and extravagant hats to match.
She leaves to celebrate her memory: 2 Sons Keith Council and Terron Council. 1 Daughter Katisha Cromer (her baby girl). 5 Grandchildren: Kyjahnae, Aniya, Jayah, Jeremiah and Keith Jr. 3 brothers: Yafel, Yusef (Joseph) and Troy. 1 Sister Kimberly. (Carmania, Desirie and George pre-deceased). A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime friends, best friends, friends and co-workers. Karen: Our Mother, Niece, Sister Auntie and Phenomenal woman of God will be missed, and her absence will truly be felt. Until we meet again, may your whole life prove that God is good!
