Remembering James P. Kane James “Jim” Paul Kane, 88, was called home after a brief illness on May 22, 2024. Jim was born to the late Henry Darrah Kane, Sr. and Elizabeth Thompson Kane in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a devoted husband, proud and loving father and grandfather, faithful friend, fraternity brother and servant of Christ. James was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, later received his college degree in Education from Cheyney University and then his master’s in administration from Temple University. He dedicated his life to education in the Philadelphia School District, employed for more than 41 years which included 13 years as a teacher and 27 years as the principal of Frederick Douglass Elementary School in North Philadelphia where he retired in 1999. James and his family have been active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Willingboro, NJ for 55 years. At St. Paul’s, he has built lifelong friendships and participated in several ministries including the United Methodist Men, Staff Parish Relations Leader, and the Men’s Choir, as well as serving as a Lay Leader for several years. James pledged Alpha Phi Alpha, the oldest African American Fraternity, while at Cheyney University and is currently a member of the Willingboro chapter, Kappa Iota Lambda. James loved his Alpha Phi Alpha Brothers, and was a dedicated member enjoying all fraternity activities, including dances, cookouts, mentoring and many other community functions. James had an infectious laugh and a strong sense of humor and delighted in talking and interacting with people. He was never without a good joke, light comment, or warm hug. He is predeceased by his parents Henry and Elizabeth, his dear son, Darrah Edwin Kane and six siblings Reverend Henry Kane Jr., Doris, Mary, Sarah, Thomas and Walter. James leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife of 58 years, Charlotte; three children James Jr., David and Pamela; a son and daughters-in-law Mohammad, Donna, Lena, and Marie; seven grandchildren Anjele, James III, Syntyche, Christyana, Micah, Maya and Luke; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two sisters Pauline (Frank Wilson) and Catherine McDaniel; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and special friends. Public viewing will be held Thursday June 6th, 2024, from 10-11am, followed by services at 11am at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 201 Veterans Pkwy, Willingboro, NJ 08046. Internment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park, 1300 US-130 N, Cinnaminson, NJ 08046.
