Obituary of Samuel W Failey
Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope, then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place for which I called you to be carried away captive."
Jeremiah 29:11-14
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Samuel Failey (affectionately known as Sam), was called home by our Heavenly Father. Samuel Failey was born to the late Zachary and Evelina Nesmith-Failey on September 27, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Samuel attended Liberty Hill Elementary and Bonds Wilson High School in Charleston, South Carolina. As a young teenager, Sam started shining shoes to help his mother with the bills after his father Zachary went home to be with the Lord. He also worked as a Lifeguard and at Phillip 66 Gas Station.
In Sam’s latter teenage years, he moved to Camden, New Jersey to live with his grandmother Minnie Nesmith. As Samuel was maturing and growing into an amazing man, he decided to make Camden, New Jersey his home. Samuel was known as a very dedicated and hard worker no matter where he went to work. Sam’s professional career started at Campbell Soup where he worked for years. Following that, he worked two additional jobs at the Deluxe Italian Bakery in Runnemede, NJ and the Department of Sanitation in Pennsauken, NJ for many years.
When Sam was 28 years old, a friend by the name of Delores who called him “Ever Loving Sam”, introduced him to the “Love of His Life” Uniece Melton. After a year of dating, Samuel and Uniece were united in holy matrimony. They were married for 43 years until his untimely death. During their union, they were blessed with three beautiful daughters.
Samuel was a God-fearing man who loved reading the Bible, attending church on Sunday and listening to Sunday ministries. Samuel believed that through Christ anything was possible, so Sam and Uniece decided to start their own cleaning business. During the duration of their business, multiple doors were opened.
One door in particular, led him to accepting a maintenance position at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, NJ where he worked until retirement.
In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by his brother John Nesmith, sisters Sandra P. Failey, Cathaline R. Failey, special brother-in-law Larry Bryant Sr. and nephew Larry Lanard Bryant Jr.
Samuel leaves to cherish his precious memories, his beautiful and dedicated wife of 43 years Uniece Failey, his three loving daughters Vicky, Sherisce (Virgil) and Samantha (Jose) of New Jersey, three grandchildren Dominic Melton and Shakira Melton, sisters Phyllis Bryant and Barbara Frazier-Hankinson (Arthur) both of Hanahan, SC, Crystal Failey of Charleston, SC, three brothers, Joseph Failey (Loretta), Michael Failey (Clara), and Herman Failey all of Charleston, SC, in-laws Annie Lewis, Jeanie Melton, Peggy McGahee (Dave), Harley Melton (Patricia), Ralph Melton all of New Jersey, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous relatives and friends.
