Obituary of David T Prescott

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Timothy Prescott Sr., age 72, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 11, 2023.  He was the fourth child of Nellie and John Prescott. David enjoyed hunting and fishing in the outdoors where he was born in the Elmwood Section of Philadelphia.  He moved to West Philadelphia in the early 60's and was educated in the Philadelphia School system. David graduated from Dobbins Technical High School, majoring in welding and College Prep. He was especially proud of the fact that he came in second place in the city pole vaulting championship during his senior year as a member of the track and field team. David enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served overseas in Turkey.  He was honorably discharged and moved back to Philadelphia with his family.  He had many interesting and rewarding jobs including his position as a fabricator at Westinghouse, Security Supervisor at the Sheraton Hotel, Warehouseman at Grand Union, owner/operator of David's Cheesesteaks and most recently, Flagger at the NJ Motorsports Park in Millville.  During these times, he took college classes to earn his CADC in Drug and Alcohol Counseling.  He was also a Skill Sponsor for the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities and a foster parent for the State of NJ.  As a foster parent to Richard Kelly and many other children in need, he offered them guidance, care and great food! Football was a passion of his; he was a longtime fan of the New York Giants.  David also was passionate about cooking and BBQ-ing and loved to feed his family and friends.  He enjoyed listening to R&B, his favorite being the Temptations, and Jazz music, especially when he took Richard out for drives. David will long be remembered for his big personality and smile, in fact, he received an award for "best smile" in his high school at one time. He was a hero to his children, was loved by his family, neighbors, and friends.  He always had a kind and encouraging word for his loved ones especially his loved and cherished friends from his home AA group in Vineland, NJ.   He is predeceased by his parents Mother Nellie (Moore) Prescott and John Prescott; sister Cynthia Peurifoy and daughter Tawanna Celeen Prescott. David is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Lois (Smolenski) Prescott, son David Timothy Prescott Jr.; children: Richard Kelly, Nevelle Schofield and Lonnie Schofield; grandson, Tawan Prescott and Lavon Simeon Prescott; sister, Joan Prescott Taylor; brothers: John Prescott (Linda) and Walter Prescott; sister-in-law Eloise Prescott; brothers-in-law Walter Smolenski (Evelyn), Joseph Smolenski (Teresa), and John Smolenski; sisters-in-law: Kathryn Pridmore (Terrance deceased) and Mary Rodriguez (Frank).  David was loved by his many nieces and nephews whom he cherished to no end.
