Khalilah Saran Griffin was born on May 27, 1980, in New Britain, Connecticut. At the age of 3, Khalilah's family moved to Voorhees, New Jersey, where she spent her formative years and embarked on her educational journey, leaving an indelible mark along the way. During her school years, Khalilah displayed an extraordinary talent for various pursuits, including violin, ballet, swim, and karate. Her academic prowess was evident, particularly in her high-altitude achievements in creative writing. Khalilah possessed a deep fascination for cultural anthropology, cardiology, and psychology. Her high school graduation was a testament to her dedication, as she received honors that recognized her exceptional achievements. Following her passion for learning, Khalilah pursued higher education at Drexel University, where she pursued a pre-med track in Biology. Her academic journey continued at Rutgers University, reflecting her commitment to knowledge and personal growth. Smart as a whip, Khalilah possessed a keen intellect that went beyond the classroom. Her emotional intelligence was equally remarkable, allowing her to connect deeply with others and provide invaluable support and understanding to any and everyone, whether a stranger, neighbor, co-worker, family member, or friend. She truly had an open heart and an open ear, making everyone feel valued and heard. And beyond her intellect and many gifts, Khalilah was also very beautiful, both inside and out. Khalilah always took pride in her appearance, radiating confidence and grace. Khalilah had a particular talent for hairstyling, with a special affinity for weaving. Her skill in this art form was a source of admiration among her friends and family. Khalilah was also cherished for her radiant smile and her captivating, endearing spirit. Truly, her beauty emanated from within, captivating the hearts of all who crossed her path. Above all else, Khalilah was cherished in her role as a mother. Her daughter, Makayla, who is now 11 years old, was Khalilah's greatest achievement and source of pride. Being a mother brought Khalilah immeasurable happiness, and her love for Makayla was boundless.  In her adult life, Khalilah faced and overcame various challenges, as a result of sustaining a serious head injury from an assault in 2011. Her untimely passing on September 19, 2023, at the age of 43, left a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Khalilah's presence was a glimmer of light in a sometimes-dark world. Her memory will forever shine in our hearts, a testament to the love, warmth, and joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Khalilah Saran Griffin will be deeply missed and eternally remembered. Khalilah is survived by her beloved daughter, Makayla; her parents Emory and Cynthia Griffin; her sister, Alaina; her aunts: Linda Englehart, Brenda Richburg, Esther Payton, Deloris Holliday (Alfred), Geneva Street, and Carolyn Johnson; her uncle, Samuel Griffin, countless beloved cousins, extended family and loved ones.
