Obituary of Florence Rose Thomas

On the evening of October 16, 2023, Florence Rose Thomas got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Cooper Medical Center, Camden, NJ. She was 90 years old. Florence was born in Camden, NJ to the predeceased Dorsey and Mary Robinson on August 18, 1933. She attended Camden City Public Schools. Florence never remarried after the death of her husband Enoch Thomas Sr. in 1985. She is survived by her children, Norris “Butch” Thomas, Enoch “Tommy” Thomas Jr., Diane Almon (Dennis), Carol Mason (Roosevelt), Dr. Janet “Penny” Thomas, Janice “Pat” Thomas. Sister Shirley Washington. A host of grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a trained public speaker and was a lay speaker for Parkside United Methodist Church, Camden, NJ which she has been a member and usher for over 45 years. She enjoyed writing many speeches, lectures, and plays. Florence was dedicated and faithful for over 60 years of service to Integrity Chapter No. 31, the Order of Eastern Star, PHA and Oziel Grand Chapter. She was a PGWM Sis. Florence Rose Thomas. Since becoming a member in 1956, she has graciously served in many positions and capacities to work diligently with a smile on her face and a ‘story to tell’ which will either have you walking away either amused or surprised. As Grand Lecturer, she organized the 1st seminar for Oziel Grand Chapter, Past Grand Chairman of the Youth Felicitaires, Organized the 1st Youth Felicitaires Cotillion Ball. Planned the 1st Youth Felicitaires 3-day convention which was held in Atlantic City, NJ. She was presented the key to the city by the mayor. Chairman at Grand Session for Visitors, Past President of the Samuel A. Llewellyn Burial Commission, President of the Past Grand Worthy Matron/Patron Council. Created and chaired the annual prayer breakfast which is always the highlight of every Grand Session. Member of Grand Jurisprudence committee, member of Heroines of Jericho, State Grand Assembly Assistant Secretary, Order of the Golden Circle, Past Loyal Lady Ruler, Primrose #9, member of Order of Cyrene, 1st World Grand Perfect Matron, Ladies of the circle of Perfection, A community activist working with the PTA. Cooked for Nuns of Cathedral Academy. Sent 5 children and a grandchild through college. Foster parent provider for many children. Retired from Camden County Board of social services and so much more too numerous to list.
